Harmony Belles raises £2,000 for charity at their ‘Singing in Colour Concert’ on Sunday 14th of July 2024

On Sunday 14th of July we performed our ‘Singing in Colour’ concert in the air-conditioned comfort of Borlase Theatre, Marlow.

The evening was a great success as we sang a selection of classical, pop and musical theatre songs reflecting the colours of the rainbow. From the well-known ‘Mr Blue Sky’ to a beautiful arrangement of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’, we sang in harmony and colour. We even managed to learn a little bit of the sign language Makaton which we used in the chorus of ‘Yellow Submarine’.

One of the highlights for the choir was singing Eric Whitacre’s beautiful song ‘Seal Lullaby’. Based on Rudyard Kipling’s tender poem about a mother seal singing a lullaby to her pup, Eric Whitacre created a dreamy piece of music and the choir absolutely loved singing this song. If you’re wondering about the connection to ‘colour’, this song is full of descriptions from the white seal pup to the green depths of the sea.

We finished the concert with Lizzo’s ‘Pink’ from the Barbie movie. Chosen by Anne Fairbrother, our Musical Director, as a tribute to her favourite colour, we donned pink feather boas and had fun with this delightful pop song. Judging by the clapping and smiling audience, it was popular with them too!

As our supporters will know, Harmony Belles is foremost about singing together for joy but running a very close second is performing in concerts and raising money for our chosen charities. This year we were supporting Chattertots and The Ruth Strauss Foundation and were delighted to raise £2,000 on the night to be shared between the two charities. If you want to know more about the charities do, do take a look at their websites (https://www.chattertots.org) (https://ruthstraussfoundation.com) or visit Our Why page.
